Two months ago, on a road trip to the Oregon coast, I read a life-changing book: “Thrive: The Third Metric to Redefining Success and Creating a Life of Well Being, Wisdom, and Wonder”, by Arianna Huffington.
I’m a true believer in serendipity, and thus believe I was meant to read this book at a very opportune time – a time when I was immersed in a combination of pursuing physical greatness with very difficult workouts, juggling half a dozen simultaneous writing assignments, and attempting to map out a hectic summer of kid and family schedules.
Just like many other high achievers, exercise enthusiasts, weekend warriors, gym junkies, biohackers, and health nuts, I was trying to squeeze every last drop out of life in an attempt to attain personal fulfillment by achieving amazing feats of physical, mental, and career performance.

The video below tells the story of Sadie, an 11-month-old baby who suffered from 300 seizures per day. She was given Cannabidiol, an oil-based extract of marijuana.

When most of us hear the phrase “caught a cold” or “dealing with the flu”, it conjures up images of runny noses, fevers, loss of appetite and a general sense of malaise.  But not many of us think about the fact that the same pathogens that can cause a cold or give us the flu can also make us fat.
And these pathogens not just make you fat, but also tired and brain dead.
See, it’s not the actual pathogens causing a sickness that make you feel crappy. Pathogens are simply not strong enough to do that. Rather, it’s your immune system’s response to those pathogens that makes you feel crappy, and (as you’re about to learn) fat, tired and brain dead.

I am often asked how somebody actually gets to the point where they can help people have better health – particularly when it comes to the eating part.
After all, even if you don’t have the resources to attend medical school and become a physician, we still live in an era where you can become a personal trainer, nutritionist, dietitian, or health coach and still be able to help lots of people achieve better health, live longer and feel better.

Most of us have at least some familiarity with a state called “flow”.
If you’ve ever lost an afternoon to a great conversation or gotten so involved in a work project that all else is forgotten or found yourself completely firing on all cylinders during a swim, bike, run or other workout, then you’ve tasted the experience.
